I just finished this book called How Your Story Sets You Free by Heather Box and Julian Mocine-McQueen and it's so good! I've been talking to everyone about it so I figure I'd make a video/post about it for you guys!

I've been on this whole kick lately of a lot of self-analysis, self-improvement and finding my why and purpose and this book has helped a lot with that.
I also recently went to a photography conference in San Francisco and there were some incredible speakers who shared a lot about finding your purpose and finding your why which kinda tied into this book. so I wanted to share three interactive things from this book and the conference that you can do on your own that can help you find your purpose and redefine your why, wherever you're at in your life.
1. Create a Life Map
The authors explain that you get a big piece of paper (or I put it in my journal) and draw out your life and write out certain points in your life. Here are some things they say to include.
• Turning Points
• Influential People
• Moments of challenge
• Moments of celebration
• Moments you'll never forget
• Big choices you made
• Big choices that were made for you
They explain that you don't need to be an artist to do this and you can make it however you want. They say to get some snacks and some colored pencils, pens or crayons and really take your time in creating this life map.
Box and McQueen say, "Your story is not about what happened t you or what you did, it is about who you have chosen to be, given all you've seen."
2. Define Your Values
Box and McQueen also say, "Sometimes our values are passed down because someone set a good example for us, and sometimes our values are shaped because a value was lacking in our lives and we wished we'd had it."
At that conference that I went to in San Francisco there was a speaker Robert Hill who said to "Define your most life-changing events. What did you believe before and after them?"
So now that you have your life map you can pin point certain life events and recognize where you are and where your values came from.
3. Finding Your Why
Robert Hill said at that same conference "Your Why lives at the center of your story."
You can refer to your life map and your morals and values to recognize your motivation behind your major life decisions.
What motivated you?
What pushed you?
What's gotten you to this point?
You can recognize where you are now and what's motivating you to go forward. Once you find that why, everyday decisions become a little more clear. You're able to see what you stand for and where you're going and what your motivation is.
With all of this time in quarantine right now, this is a really cool opportunity to do some inner work. Hope this helps you out.
